Martinsicuro is one of the 11 municipalities in the Abruzzo Region and of the 86 municipalities in Italy which were awarded the acknowledgement of the European Blue Flag, given by the Fee in 2004, the Foundation for environmental education, in co-operation with Cobat and Coou (compulsory consortiums for the collection of batteries and exhausted oils), to the seaside resorts that can boast a clean sea and beach and are committed towards environmental friendly tourism. In order to award this acknowledgement, the following data were evaluated: bathing waters, the existence and functionality of water conditioning systems, waste disposal measures (separately collected fractions and recycling), maintenance of streets and beaches, support to environmental education programmes towards schools and individuals.
